The best techno clubs in Dublin right now are Index on Middle Abbey Street for big touring names, Yamamori Tengu for underground bookings in a 250-capacity basement, and Centre Point in Temple Bar for weekend house and techno with a social door policy. Wigwam, The Racket Space, Fidelity Studio, Pawn Shop and The Sound House fill out the week. Two names from the first version of this guide have changed: District 8 no longer runs a club and works as a promoter, and Index has moved twice since 2023. Every club below was checked against its own website and its Resident Advisor listing between 29 September and 8 October 2026.

Capacities are the figures published by the clubs or on their Resident Advisor venue pages. Dublin clubs close at 03:00, so a night here starts and ends earlier than in Berlin or Amsterdam.

Is Index still the best techno club in Dublin?

For big names, yes. Index started in 2017 as a club night promoter, opened its own two-room venue in the former Opium Rooms building on Liberty Lane in September 2023, and in February 2025 moved into the Middle Abbey Street building that housed The Academy, opening with MK and Sammy Virji. The room now holds around 1,000 people according to Resident Advisor and DJ Mag, which placed Index at number 80 in its Top 100 Clubs 2026 poll, up from 98 the year before.

Programming runs mainly Thursday to Saturday from 23:00 to 03:00 and swings between house, tech house and harder techno and trance: Ben Hemsley and Vendex one weekend, Indira Paganotto, Eddie Halliwell or Mauro Picotto the next, plus the Index x Outset and Index x Subject series. The door is strictly over 18s with photo ID, everyone is searched, and a no-flash policy means stickers go on phone cameras at the entrance. The cloakroom is at the top of the building by the rooftop. October 2026 tickets for Vendex ran from EUR 22.05 to 33.05 on RA across three releases.

What is Yamamori Tengu like?

Yamamori Tengu is the underground pick. It is a single basement room at 37 Great Strand Street, behind the Yamamori Japanese restaurant, open since 2012 with red light, haze, a Funktion-One sound system and its well-known dancing plants. Capacity is about 250, club nights run Friday to Sunday from 23:00 to 03:00, and Resident Advisor lists the venue as 20+.

The booking policy leans on local collectives and residents, with an in-house residency series that includes Sally C, Or:la, Spray, Sunil Sharpe, Ngoni and Dylan Fogarty, and a Soundsystem Sunday series with Rub A Dub HiFi. Guests over the years include Ben UFO, CCL, Octo Octa, Polygonia, Anz and Calibre. A welfare pledge sets zero tolerance for violence, non-consensual touching and discriminatory language, with a Night-Time Monitor team at every club night, and Safe Gigs Ireland named it Soundest Venue in 2024. October 2026 dates include Malin Genie on the 10th and salute on the 16th.

Where do Centre Point and the Button Factory fit?

The Button Factory on Curved Street in Temple Bar opened in 1996 as the Temple Bar Music Centre and took its current name in 2007. The Main Room is a 550-capacity black box with an L-Acoustics system and a balcony, Curveball is a smaller 80 to 150 room, and Crowbar is the public bar. Early evenings are live gigs; since October 2021 the Centre Point club has run the Friday and Saturday late slots from 23:00 to 03:00 with a house and techno policy, a ground-level DJ booth and promoters such as SOAP, Circles and Subject. Past guests include Laurent Garnier, Floating Points, Overmono, Joy Orbison and Daniel Avery.

Two practical notes. Entry is 18+ with a physical ID carrying a PASS hologram, tracksuits are not permitted, and the cloakroom costs EUR 3 in cash. Centre Point also holds tickets for every show for people on unemployment benefit, jobseekers and asylum seekers, with free tickets for personal assistants. Autumn 2026 advance tickets on DICE ranged from EUR 15 to 36. The venue marks 30 years in 2026 with its BF30 series, including a Modeselektor DJ set on 6 November, and won IMRO’s Dublin Venue of the Year in 2025.

Why is Wigwam the all-round pick on Middle Abbey Street?

Wigwam at 54 Middle Abbey Street, three doors from Index, is a rum bar by day and a club by night, with three spaces: the main floor, an intimate basement and a rooftop terrace used for day parties. The bar opens daily from 12:00 and club nights run from about 23:00 to 03:00 under the Wigwam Presents, Stacked and Resonate banners, covering house, garage, disco, techno and hardcore. The autumn 2026 programme is the strongest in the city for techno purists: a Tresor 35th anniversary night on 25 October with Regis, Daniel Bell, Fireground and Dublin’s own Cailín, KiNK b2b Raredub with Nikki Nair on 9 October, Mac Declos on 23 October and a three-room showcase of the Tbilisi club Khidi with Pablo Bozzi on 14 November.

Which smaller rooms are worth the trip?

The Racket Space sits under The Bernard Shaw at Cross Guns Bridge in Drumcondra, Dublin 9. The room holds 300 for club nights on a Funktion-One with Pioneer CDJ-3000s and eight Technics 1210s, and the Racket Store sells records and runs vinyl workshops at weekends. Autumn 2026 bookings include Garrett David on 30 October, Andre Zimmer on 6 November and Photek on 13 November, with tickets around EUR 25 to 28.

Fidelity Studio is the ticketed room of Fidelity, the audiophile bar at 79 Queen Street in Smithfield opened in 2022 by the Whiplash brewery and the team behind The Big Romance. Free DJ sets run in the bar most evenings; the Studio hosts 21+ nights with house and disco names, and the October and November 2026 list includes a Leon Vynehall residency, Romare (sold out), Gerd Janson on 25 October and Hunee all night long on 6 November.

Pawn Shop at 15 Dame Street runs late basement nights from 23:00 to 03:00 that lean towards techno, house and industrial, often free: the Bastardo Electrico 24th birthday with Jerome Hill is on 27 November. The Sound House at 28 Eden Quay, two minutes from O’Connell Street, is an independent 300-capacity venue with a Void Acoustics system where collectives such as ISR and Rathaus run club nights, including Rathaus Halloween on 31 October. Pygmalion on South William Street is a restaurant and bar that turns into a 21+ club on selected nights; its 25 October date with Deep Dish and Matador is co-promoted by District 8.

What happened to District 8?

District 8 was the 1,000-plus capacity club that gave Dublin its biggest techno nights, with guests such as Sunil Sharpe, Helena Hauff and DVS1. It no longer runs a club of its own. The brand now operates as an events company with the D8 in the Garden series and co-promotions, and the company behind it, District Eight Event Promoters Limited, trades as Index on Middle Abbey Street.
