About Z-Bau
Z-Bau, the Haus für Gegenwartskultur, is a culture house in a listed brick building at Frankenstraße 200 in Nuremberg's Südstadt. The Z-shaped block was built as barracks under the Nazis and used by the US Army as Merrell Barracks until 1991; from 2001 to the end of 2010 one room housed the techno club Zoom, a base for the city's growing techno scene. After renovation from 2012 it reopened in October 2015, run by the city-funded Gesellschaft für kulturelle Freiräume. Four stages, among them the 1,000-capacity Großer Saal, the Galerie and the Roter Salon, host concerts, parties, readings and theatre, next to studios, rehearsal rooms, a summer beer garden and the community Nordgarten. Z-Bau marks 11 years with a party across the whole building on 2 October 2026.
