About Tresor
Tresor opened at midnight on 13 March 1991 in the basement vaults of the former Wertheim department store on Leipziger Straße, near Potsdamer Platz. It was founded by Dimitri Hegemann a few months after German reunification, and the Tresor Records label followed the same year, releasing Detroit artists such as Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, Blake Baxter and Robert Hood. The original site closed on 16 April 2005, and the club reopened in May 2007 in the disused southern section of the Heizkraftwerk Berlin-Mitte power plant on Köpenicker Straße, where some of the old safe deposit lockers were built into the basement.
The basement Tresor floor is dedicated to techno and electro, Globus upstairs takes a lighter house and experimental line, and the smaller Aurora Bar opens on some nights. Wednesdays are New Faces nights for emerging artists, Fridays bring label and collective takeovers under the Tresor meets banner, and Saturday Klubnacht runs from 23:00 into Sunday morning. A Lambda Labs sound system was fitted during a refurbishment before the May 2022 reopening. Photos and filming are not allowed inside.
