About Teatro Eslava
Teatro Eslava, known for decades as Joy Eslava, is a concert hall and club on Calle Arenal in central Madrid, between Puerta del Sol and Ópera. The building opened on 30 September 1871 as the Salón Eslava, promoted by Bonifacio Eslava, and spent a century as a theatre for zarzuela, revue and later cabaret. On 24 February 1981 businessman Pedro Trapote reopened it as the Joy Eslava discotheque, which became a fixture of Madrid nightlife. A fire in 1998 destroyed the frescoes on the historic vault.
The financial group GBS Finance took over the venue in 2019 and carried out a full refurbishment lasting about a year and a half, with interiors by the French designer Philippe Starck and the old romantic style boxes kept in place. It reopened as Teatro Eslava in March 2022. Today it runs a mixed programme of concerts, club sessions such as Ochoymedio Club, and corporate events, with tickets sold through its own website and entradas.com.
