About FOLD
FOLD is a techno club and arts space in a former print works on Stephenson Street in Canning Town, London, opened on 18 August 2018. It was founded by Seb Glover, formerly of the Hackney Wick venue Shapes, and DJ and producer Lasha Jorjoliani, who plays as Voicedrone. They picked an industrial estate away from housing so the club could hold a 24-hour licence from Newham council, and it opened with a 24-hour event.
Inside, the design is dark and stripped back: the DJ booth sits at floor level and the only raised platforms are steel scaffolding structures for dancers. The Main Room runs a Funktion-One sound system, with a second room, the Steam Room. Bookings lean towards challenging and emerging techno artists, alongside residents such as Voicedrone, James Newmarch, Anabel Arroyo and Lockhart. UNFOLD, a Sunday daytime party, often keeps its line-up unannounced and moves the decks to the middle of the floor. FOLD runs a no-photo policy and a queer-positive safe space policy, and also hosts the FUTUR.SHOCK arts programme and the DETECT mix series.
Door policy
From the club's own rulesFOLD runs a no-photo policy, with stickers put on phone cameras at entry. A queer-positive safe space policy is displayed at the entrance: no racism, no sexism, no homophobia, no transphobia.
