About Ministry of Sound

Ministry of Sound opened on 21 September 1991 in a disused bus garage at 103 Gaunt Street in Elephant & Castle, south London. The idea came from Justin Berkmann, inspired by New York's Paradise Garage, who built it with James Palumbo as a club where the sound system came first. The club is part of the Ministry of Sound Group, which also runs events, a music business, a members' workspace called The Ministry and a fitness studio.

The club has four rooms. The main room, The Box, was rebuilt with a new KV2 sound system and production by Lucid Creates. 103 is the main bar with a kinetic lighting rig, The Baby Box is a small, stripped back room for newer DJs, and The Loft hosts label showcases and takeovers. The programme covers house, techno, melodic sounds, drum and bass, grime and afrobeats, with Milkshake student nights on Tuesdays. 2026 marks the club's 35th year, with a MoS 35 series of events.

Valid physical photo ID is scanned on entry (driving licence, passport or PASS card), with no ID, no entry, and people arriving alone are refused. Everyone is searched. Dress for a good night out: no tracksuits, sportswear, caps, football shirts or face coverings, though smart shorts and trainers are fine.
