About Brancaleone

Brancaleone is a social and cultural centre on Via Levanna in Montesacro, in the north east of Rome. It started in 1990 in an occupied building owned by the City of Rome and grew into one of the city's main stages, first for punk, hardcore and post rock concerts and, around the 2000s, for club nights on Fridays and Saturdays that brought bass and electronic sounds to Rome early. In 2005 it also founded the independent station Radio Popolare Roma. After a period of forced closure, it reopened in 2019 under the ARCI association network, with a programme tied to its neighbourhood that mixes music, literature and art, and a garden used in summer. Recent nights come from local collectives such as Collective Mood, Fleurs Sonores and Hyperacustica, with live acts and DJ sets.
