Awakenings Upclose is the smaller, dance-floor-focused festival from Awakenings, the Amsterdam techno organisation whose first night took place at the Gashouder in 1997. On its official site, Awakenings describes Upclose as an intimate festival built to create the perfect rave conditions, with the aim of removing the traditional barriers between artists and the crowd and meeting eye to eye on the dance floor. The organisers say the event pushes their musical boundaries and explores cutting-edge techno sounds, with new areas and surprising stages set on what they call their Holy Ground.

Upclose 2027 takes place on Saturday 15 May and Sunday 16 May 2027 at Houtrak in the Spaarnwoude recreation area, on the western edge of Amsterdam, with the site open from 12:00 to 23:00 on both days. According to the official event page, the regular ticket sale for Upclose 2027 starts at the end of 2026, so no ticket link is live yet. The line-up has not been announced either; previous editions have run under the Awakenings banner with the same production standards as the larger festival.

Visitors should expect a more compact layout than the three-day Awakenings Festival in Hilvarenbeek, with the emphasis on sound and proximity to the artists rather than scale. The Houtrak site sits in open parkland within easy reach of the city, which makes Upclose a two-day techno festival that suits a weekend in Amsterdam.
