About Gashouder

Gashouder is a round former gas holder in Cultuurpark Westergas, west Amsterdam, about 2.5 km from Centraal Station. It was built in 1885 as part of the Westergasfabriek and stored gas for the city's lights until the works closed in 1967. In the 1990s the Holland Festival and Awakenings began using the empty hall, and Awakenings held its early techno parties here. The building is now run by Gashouder B.V. as a cultural stage for live music, dance, art and performance, with room for more than 3,500 standing visitors under the steel roof. After a pre-opening season from June 2026, with Amsterdam Dance Event nights such as I Hate Models and Nico Moreno, Eric Prydz and Mochakk, the venue opens officially at the end of October 2026 while new underground spaces are still being finished. Dance nights include KETTAMA all night long on 27 November 2026.
