About Kassablanca
Kassablanca, known locally as the Kassa, is a nonprofit club and culture house run by Kassablanca e.V. at the end of Gleis 1 near Jena's Westbahnhof. It grew out of a citizens' initiative in autumn 1989 and opened in 1990 in a house on Villengang; the name is a twist on "blanke Kasse", an empty till. After several moves the association settled at the current site in 1994, converting an old water tower, then opening a café and a small disco in 1995 and a concert hall in the former engine shed in April 1997. The Kassa hosts about 400 events a year for 60,000 to 70,000 visitors, from concerts, cinema and readings to club nights. On 2 October 2026 it marked 35 years of house and techno in Jena with Tanith, Jonzon, Foch and The Exaltics.
