Best Techno Festivals in the USA 2027: 15 Worth the Flight
Fifteen US techno festivals worth travelling for between October 2026 and August 2027, from Movement Detroit and Time Warp New York to EDC Las Vegas, with dates, lineups and trip planning.

If you only fly to one American techno festival in the next twelve months, make it Movement in Detroit, 29 to 31 May 2027. It is the only large festival in the country built around techno rather than merely hosting it, and it happens in the city that invented the music. The other fourteen on this list earn their place for different reasons: a warehouse Halloween in a Bay Area hangar, a two-night Sven Väth marathon in a Brooklyn shipyard, Ricardo Villalobos playing through Art Basel week, and a Las Vegas carnival that will run for twelve days for the first time.
We keep a live calendar of every techno and electronic festival in the United States. At the time of writing it holds 120 confirmed dates between October 2026 and September 2027. This guide is the short version: the fifteen we would actually book, ordered by when they happen, so you can plan a trip rather than scroll a list. Dates were checked against the organisers on 8 October 2026.
When the American festival year actually happens
Europe front-loads its festival season into July and August. The United States does the opposite. Count the confirmed dates on our calendar month by month and the busiest stretch is October to December, when Halloween weekend alone produces more than twenty events, followed by a second peak in May when Las Vegas, Detroit and the California campouts all land within three weeks of each other. January to April is quiet apart from Miami.
Geography is just as lopsided. California has 24 of the 120 dates, Florida 18, Texas 12, with Arizona and New York on eight each. If you are flying in from Europe, a Miami or New York trip is a single long-haul flight; the Californian campouts and Las Vegas usually mean a connection and a hire car.
How we chose the fifteen
Four filters, applied in this order. The festival has a confirmed date on the organiser’s own channels, so nothing on this list is a rumour. Techno, house or their harder cousins make up the core of the programme, not one tent at a pop festival. The event is big enough or distinctive enough to justify travel, which rules out excellent local parties. And the 2026 edition actually happened, which quietly removes a handful of festivals whose websites still promise a comeback.
Two famous names did not make the cut on those rules. Coachella (9 to 11 and 16 to 18 April 2027) has the Yuma tent, a genuinely good techno room, but it is a fraction of a pop festival with pop prices. Burning Man (29 August to 6 September 2027) has more sound systems than any festival on earth and is not, by its own definition, a festival. Both are worth doing once. Neither is where you go for the music first.
Autumn 2026: warehouse season
III Points, Miami, 16 and 17 October
III Points turns Mana Wynwood into a two-night maze of warehouses and open-air stages, and the 2026 bill is the most techno-leaning in its history: Charlotte de Witte, Honey Dijon, Four Tet, Floating Points and Underworld live, with Seth Troxler holding the late shift. It is the one Miami weekend that is not about Ultra, and the city is at its most bearable in October.
Factory 93 Halloween, Alameda, 30 and 31 October
Insomniac’s techno arm moves its Halloween party to the Gold Bar Hangar, a former naval aircraft hangar across the bay from San Francisco. Factory 93 Halloween has Richie Hawtin, Jamie Jones, Boys Noize, 999999999, Indira Paganotto and Salome across two nights. Of the twenty-one Halloween events on our calendar this is the one with the purest techno lineup.
Hocus Pocus Miami, 30 October to 1 November
Factory Town, the Hialeah warehouse complex that Miami’s underground has adopted as its home, runs three nights under the Hocus Pocus banner. Eric Prydz, Chase & Status, Jamie Jones back to back with Franky Rizardo and Joseph Capriati back to back with Seth Troxler. If you cannot be in two places on Halloween, Miami’s advantage over Alameda is that the party carries on into Sunday.
Obsidian, Phoenix, 6 and 7 November
The sleeper pick of the autumn. Obsidian takes over Eastlake Park in downtown Phoenix with a bill that reads like a Berlin club week: Boys Noize, Chris Liebing, DJ Stingray 313 and Truncate, with a long tail of local selectors. Small, cheap by American standards and programmed by people who clearly listen to the records.
Seismic Dance Event, Austin, 13 to 15 November
Now in its ninth edition, Seismic is the festival that made the Concourse Project the best-known club in Texas. Three days, three stages, and a 2026 lineup that stretches from Above & Beyond and Porter Robinson’s DJ set to Sara Landry, KI/KI, Chris Liebing, SPFDJ and Brutalismus 3000. The crowd is young, loud and refreshingly unbothered about genre borders.
Time Warp New York, Brooklyn, 20 and 21 November
Mannheim’s institution has been coming to New York since 2014 and the 2026 edition moves into the Duggal Greenhouse and Agger Building at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Time Warp New York runs 10pm to 6am both nights with Sven Väth on top of a bill that includes DVS1, Indira Paganotto, Anetha, VTSS, Klangkuenstler and DJ Tennis back to back with Red Axes. Tickets are sold as a two-night bundle through Dice. A Los Angeles debut follows a week later at Ace Mission Studios, 27 and 28 November.
Winter: Art Basel and New Year’s Eve
Where Are My Keys, Miami Basel, 3 to 6 December
Art Basel week fills Miami with parties, most of them forgettable. Where Are My Keys is the exception: four days at The Pickle with Ricardo Villalobos, tINI and Fumiya Tanaka playing the long, loose sets that American festivals rarely allow. Minimal and house heads will not find a better week in the country.
Decadence Arizona, Phoenix Raceway, 30 and 31 December
New Year’s Eve festivals in the US are mostly a mainstage affair, but Decadence Arizona has quietly built a proper techno room. Alongside Disclosure’s DJ set and Chris Lake, the 2026 lineup has I Hate Models, Eli Brown and Patrick Topping. Two nights at a motor racing circuit outside Phoenix, in December temperatures that Europeans would call spring.
Spring 2027: Miami, then Las Vegas
Ultra Music Festival, Miami, 26 to 28 March
Ultra returns to Bayfront Park for its 27th edition, and for techno the reason to go is Resistance, the stage that has hosted Carl Cox’s longest American sets for a decade. The 2027 lineup had not been announced when we checked, but the pattern is reliable: Resistance headliners are confirmed in January, and the Megastructure stage sells out of VIP first. General admission is 18 and over. Our separate Ultra guide covers tickets, tiers and where to stay. Around it sits Miami Music Week, 22 to 28 March, with more than 200 club and pool events; many of the best techno nights of the week happen at Factory Town and Club Space rather than inside the festival.
EDC Las Vegas, 14 to 16 and 21 to 23 May
For the first time EDC Las Vegas runs over two weekends, billed as Dusk and Dawn, with the same lineup both weekends and twelve days of pop-ups in between. Techno lives in the Neon Garden, which in recent years has been programmed with more care than its reputation suggests: the 2026 edition handed it to Time Warp and Factory 93 for takeovers, with Indira Paganotto, Joseph Capriati, Eli Brown and Klangkuenstler on the bill. Go for the scale, stay for the Neon Garden at 4am.
Summer 2027: Detroit and the campouts
Lightning in a Bottle, Bakersfield, 26 to 30 May
Five days at the Buena Vista lake outside Bakersfield, Lightning in a Bottle is the closest the United States gets to a European boutique festival: art, workshops, a serious house and techno stage called the Woogie, and a crowd that camps properly. The 2027 presale has already closed; the waitlist is on Tixr. Combine it with Detroit the following weekend and you have the best fortnight in the American calendar.
Movement, Detroit, 29 to 31 May
Memorial Day weekend at Hart Plaza, on the river between the Renaissance Center and Canada. Movement is where Jeff Mills, Carl Craig and Kevin Saunderson play as locals, where the Underground stage has broken more European techno DJs to American crowds than any club, and where the afterparties, from the TV Lounge to the Old Miami, matter as much as the festival. The 2027 lineup lands in the new year. Book accommodation now: downtown Detroit hotels sell out months ahead.
Tec-Troit, Detroit, 25 to 27 June
Four weeks after Movement, Tec-Troit is Detroit’s own answer to it. Founded in 2011 by producer Raul Rocha, better known as DJ Roach, after Movement started charging admission, it is free, all ages, run as a non-profit on donations, and programmed almost entirely with Detroit and Michigan artists, with workshops and lectures in the daytime. It is the festival for people who want to hear the city’s second and third generation rather than the names on the Movement poster. The 2027 venue had not been announced when we checked.
Dirtybird Campout x Northern Nights, Piercy, 15 to 18 July
Claude VonStroke’s summer camp merges with Northern Nights on the Eel River in Mendocino County. Dirtybird Campout is house rather than techno in the strict sense, but the label’s roster and the river-swimming, talent-show, camp-counsellor format make it the most distinctly American weekend on this list. Four days, cars allowed at the campsite, and a lineup that will be announced in spring.
Elements Music & Arts Festival, Long Pond, 6 to 8 August
Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains host Elements, a camping festival that has grown from a Brooklyn warehouse party into the East Coast’s answer to Lightning in a Bottle. The Earth stage is house and techno all weekend, two hours from New York by car, and August in the mountains is cooler than anywhere else on the East Coast. Lineup to come.

Planning the trip from abroad
Most visitors from Europe, the UK and Turkey with a visa waiver need an ESTA, which costs 40 dollars and is usually approved within a day; apply at least three days before you fly. Almost every event on this list is 18 or 21 and over and will check a passport at the gate, so carry it rather than a photocopy. American festivals are stricter than European ones about what you can bring in: hydration packs are normally fine, large bags, professional cameras and anything glass are not, and the rules are published on each festival’s site a week or two before.
Each festival page on Techno Airlines has the venue address, a map, the official ticket link and a hotel search for the dates, so you can price a trip without opening ten tabs. For what to pack, our festival packing list covers the basics; for the warehouse events, add proper earplugs, because the American sound systems on this list run louder than most European ones. And if you are weighing up the techno scene’s growth in the US before you book, our hard techno listening data shows how quickly the audience has grown since 2024.
The TA view
The gap between American and European techno festivals has narrowed faster than most European ravers realise. Five years ago this list would have been Movement and a long pause. Today the October to December stretch alone has five events we would send a reader across the Atlantic for, and the warehouse culture in Miami, Brooklyn and the Bay Area is now programming the same names as Amsterdam and Berlin, often a few months earlier. The weak spot remains the summer: outside Detroit, the big American summer festivals are still pop festivals with a techno tent. If one of the campouts commits to a fully techno programme, the calendar will be complete.
Frequently asked questions
What is the biggest techno festival in the USA?
Movement in Detroit is the largest festival in the United States programmed primarily around techno, with roughly 35,000 people a day over Memorial Day weekend. EDC Las Vegas is far bigger overall, at more than 150,000 a day, but techno is one stage among eight.
When is the best time of year for techno festivals in the US?
Late October to early December, when Halloween weekend, Time Warp New York and Miami’s Art Basel week all fall within six weeks, and late May, when EDC Las Vegas, Lightning in a Bottle and Movement happen in consecutive weeks.
Do I need a visa to attend a festival in the United States?
Citizens of visa waiver countries, including the UK and most of the EU, need an ESTA rather than a visa. It costs 40 dollars, is valid for two years and is usually approved within 24 hours. Turkish citizens need a B-2 visitor visa, which takes considerably longer.
Are US festivals 18 or 21 and over?
It varies by event and state. Ultra is 18 and over for general admission and 21 and over for VIP. Most warehouse events in Miami, New York and California are 21 and over. Movement and EDC admit 18 and over. Check the specific event, and bring a passport.
Which US festival is most like a European techno festival?
Time Warp New York, which is run by the same team as the Mannheim original, and Movement, whose Underground stage books the same artists as Awakenings and Dekmantel. Lightning in a Bottle is the closest in atmosphere to a European boutique camping festival.
