About Salon des Amateurs
Salon des Amateurs is an independent bar and club inside the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf at Grabbeplatz 4 in the Altstadt. It was founded by the artists Stefano Brivio, Aron Mehzion and Detlef Weinrich, all former students of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and the name nods to the Salon des Indépendants in Paris. The room is a narrow former exhibition hall about 17 metres long and 7 metres wide, designed by rheinflügel as a 1970s style modernist lounge, with a seven metre bar of dark green stone and a lit slatted wall after El Lissitzky. It holds about 150 people, and it was closed from November 2018 to December 2019 for a restoration by the city. Weekend nights bring DJs from the edges of house, techno and dance music, and Thursdays host Lost and Found, a concert series for rare music and improvisation.
