UNTOLD 2026 becomes the first festival in Europe to fold free HPV testing and breast ultrasounds into the event, run with the Renasterea Foundation in Cluj-Napoca.
UNTOLD is not just closing out one of the biggest weekends in dance music this August, it is quietly rewriting what a festival can be. As its eleventh edition runs from 6 to 9 August 2026 at the Cluj Arena in Cluj-Napoca, the Romanian giant has become the first festival in Europe to move free cancer screening inside its own gates, parking a mobile medical caravan beside the crowds and opening it to anyone holding a wristband.
The UNTOLD festival health programme is built around two free tests aimed squarely at women: HPV testing and breast ultrasounds, both linked to cancers that early detection can dramatically change. It runs in partnership with the Renasterea Foundation, a Romanian non-profit that has offered free education and screening across the country for more than two decades, with examinations carried out by specialist doctors from the Oncology Institute in Cluj-Napoca. The unit sits close to the arena, framed as a discreet, professional space rather than a promotional stunt.
The logic is hard to argue with. UNTOLD draws hundreds of thousands of people across four days, sits third in DJ Mag’s Top 100 Festivals for 2026, and pulls a young, largely female crowd, exactly the demographic that routine screening programmes so often miss. Meeting that audience where it already is, on a site laid out for Carl Cox, Martin Garrix, a Pendulum DJ set and eight stages of programming, turns a night out into a rare point of contact with preventive care.
“This is the first time that cancer prevention reaches the heart of a music festival,” said Mihaela Geoana, president of the Renasterea Foundation, calling the move a historic moment for the organisation.
Ioana Chereji, who leads communications for the initiative, framed it as bringing prevention “closer to the female audience” in a place where they feel “connected, safe and part of a community.” Festivals have spent years expanding what happens beyond the stage, from welfare tents to harm-reduction and drug-checking services. UNTOLD’s festival breast cancer screening pushes that idea a step further, into the territory of preventive medicine, and it does so at a scale few events could match.
Whether other majors follow will say a lot about where festival culture is heading. For now, the most interesting thing on the UNTOLD site this weekend might not be on a stage at all.
