Which club in Rio de Janeiro is best for techno?
D-EDGE Rio is the main club for techno and house in Rio de Janeiro. It sits inside the Centro Cultural D-EDGE Rio at Avenida Rodrigues Alves 293, in the Saúde part of the old port, and is run by Renato Ratier, who opened the original D-EDGE in São Paulo in 2003. The Rio club lists a capacity of 900 and has had more than 260 nights on Resident Advisor since its first listing in November 2023, almost always on Fridays and Saturdays from 23:00 until 07:00. Entry is 18+.
The 2026 calendar mixes Brazilian residents with international guests. The season opened on 4 April with DE26, a night with Carl Craig, Moodymann and KiNK. The club then hosted two nights of the Hot Beats music conference on 22 and 23 May and Nick Curly on 5 June. September brought Toy Tonics with Stump Valley, Ratier & Friends with Archie Hamilton and the São Paulo party Selvagem, and Amine Edge played Just Groove on 9 October. Tickets for the Ratier & Friends anniversary night in November 2025 started at R$70 plus fees.

Where are the underground parties in downtown Rio?

TRAUMA is the busiest underground room in central Rio. It has been listing parties on Resident Advisor since May 2025, with about 100 nights so far, and describes itself as a downtown bar with an intimate cocktail bar on the first floor and a dancefloor with a heavy sound system upstairs. Parties usually run from 22:00 to 05:00.
The programme is built by Rio’s own crews rather than by headliners. Regular series include Noites de Dub with Capetini, Noites de Funk and the club nights of Banana Gold and Escola de Mistérios. Speedtest brought SHERELLE on 18 April 2026, Leo Justi played on 5 September and Millos Kaiser on 18 September. Coming up: ARENA with NORA and ZEI on 1 November, and EELF presents Target Demographic from the USA on 18 November (R$50 to R$120 on Resident Advisor). Entry for a regular night in October 2026 was R$30.
A few streets away, Vidadura at Beco de Bragança 26 is an art gallery that turns into an 80-capacity party room, with nights such as Klub Eza and Pesadão.

Where can you hear hard techno in Rio de Janeiro?
Club 63 on Rua Maria Eugênia in Humaitá, next to Botafogo, is where Rio’s hard techno nights land. The venue calls itself an underground house in the heart of Botafogo and lists a capacity of 250 on Resident Advisor. Its 2026 nights include ALT: Berlin to Hard Techno (23 July and 17 September), IBRD: Hard Techno Chegou no Rio (8 August) and the Girls Techno Club series, whose third edition is a Halloween party on 24 October from 23:00 to 06:00 (R$50 on Resident Advisor).
Hard techno in Rio is still a small, party-led scene rather than a club with a weekly residency, so follow the promoters as much as the venue.
Which venues in Rio’s port district host the big parties?

The old port around Praça Mauá, rebuilt as Porto Maravilha, has become Rio’s party district. Edifício Touring, the early 20th-century headquarters of the Touring Club do Brasil on the square, is the venue for one-off nights: BOMA hosted the official closing party of the Rio International Film Festival there on 9 October 2026 with Elderbrook, and Deja Vu celebrated its first birthday with Millos Kaiser on 31 July.
For daytime, Orla 21 at Avenida Almirante Silvio de Noronha 365, by Santos Dumont airport, hosts the Solace day parties from 14:00 to 22:00 for up to 600 people. Rafael Cerato played on 28 June, and Innersounds takes over on 24 October. On 28 November Innersounds moves to the water for Sea of Sounds at Marina da Glória.
Where can you hear DJs on a weeknight in Rio?
Rio’s newest wave is the listening bar: small rooms with a serious sound system, records and DJs from early evening. They are the best option from Wednesday to Thursday, when the clubs are closed.
- Bar de Escuta, Rua General Polidoro 12, Botafogo: a three-storey listening bar on a custom-made Core sound system, with jazz on Wednesdays and DJs from Thursday to Sunday. Capacity 150, with nights listed since August 2026.
- Frisson, Rua Dezenove de Fevereiro 190, Botafogo: a bar and record shop open Wednesday to Saturday from 18:00 to 01:00, with guest DJs such as Miguel Arcanjo and Reizko.
- Fatchia, Rua Benjamin Constant 8, Glória: a cosy bar with DJs from Wednesday to Sunday, with more Resident Advisor listings between April and October 2026 than any other venue in Rio.

- The Week Rio (Rua Sacadura Cabral, Saúde): its last Resident Advisor listing is from February 2014, and the brand’s website no longer loads.
- Casa da Matriz (Botafogo) and Rio Scenarium (Lapa): both are good nights out, but for indie and alternative music and live samba respectively, not techno.
