Strictly Rhythm was founded in New York in 1989 by Gladys Pizarro and Mark Finkelstein, who had both worked in A&R at Spring Records. It became one of the main American house labels of the 1990s.The early catalogue included Todd Terry, Masters at Work, Roger Sanchez, Josh Wink and Armand van Helden, and Reel 2 Real's 1994 single I Like to Move It was a worldwide hit. The label stopped in 2002, relaunched in 2007, and since 2019 its trademark and rights have been held by BMG. Strictly Rhythm still issues new music and reissues from New York and London, and is known in the scene for its deep archive of club records.
