The Fuckparade returns to the streets of Berlin on 15 August 2026 for its 27th edition, carrying forward a tradition that began in 1997. It is not a ticketed event but a registered political demonstration, a moving procession of sound system trucks that rolls through the centre of the German capital. The parade was founded as a direct answer to the Love Parade, protesting against the commercialisation of club culture, rising entry fees and the closure of independent venues such as the Bunker in Berlin-Mitte.

Originally called the Hateparade in 1997, the event took its current name a year later to avoid misunderstanding. Its early years were marked by conflict with the authorities. In 2001 the city imposed a ban on amplified sound, prompting demonstrators to march with portable radios in protest. The dispute eventually reached the Federal Administrative Court, which ruled in 2007 that the Fuckparade qualified as an assembly under German law, protecting its right to take to the streets. Musically it sits apart from a mainstream music festival, favouring the harder end of the spectrum: gabber, hardcore techno, speedcore, breakcore, drum and bass and industrial.

Every truck is required to carry a banner stating a political message, keeping the protest at the heart of the day rather than the party alone. Over the years the parade has drawn crowds numbering in the thousands, with the largest gatherings recorded in the early 2000s and again around 2011 and 2012. The 2026 edition assembles in central Berlin and follows a route through districts long tied to the city’s underground, a reminder of the subcultural spaces the movement set out to defend.
