About Cobalt Studios

Cobalt Studios is a community arts venue and club space on Boyd Street in the Ouseburn area of Newcastle upon Tyne, run by the not-for-profit Cobalt Too CIC alongside artist studios and coworking. The venue room was a wood workshop until 2015, when the team turned it into a pop-up venue built in five days from pallets and scaffolding poles; after a council closure in 2017 it was refitted through a crowdfunder and loan. It still runs the same d&b sound system. Cobalt opens in seasons, with a week that moves from community and learning events to the Thursday FRESH gig and dinner night and a club night on Saturday. The licence allows 36 late closes a year, tickets are mostly GBP 8 to 12, and club nights have a no-camera policy.
