Autumn Techno Festivals 2026: Europe’s September and October Calendar
The European season does not end in August. Eight confirmed techno festivals run from Decibel Open Air in Florence to Dream Nation in Paris, and more of them are moving indoors.
Every year the same question shows up in the last week of August: is the European festival season over? For 2026 the answer is no. It changes shape. Eight sizeable techno gatherings are still standing between now and Halloween, and the revealing part is how many have quietly stopped being open air events.
September is still an outdoor month
The first weekend belongs to Florence, where Decibel Open Air returns to Parco delle Cascine on 4, 5 and 6 September. A week later two very different events run almost on top of each other. Basilar takes over the Barragem da Queimadela reservoir in Fafe, northern Portugal, from 10 to 13 September, built around a single stage and more than sixty hours of long form sets, with Steve Rachmad among the names. Voodoo Village marks its eleventh edition in the castle grounds at Grimbergen, Belgium, from 11 to 13 September, with 999999999, DVS1, Len Faki b2b Quest and Nina Kraviz across five stages.
Waterworks shows how fragile the outdoor model has become
The most instructive story of the season is not a lineup. Waterworks was due to spend 12 and 13 September in Gunnersbury Park, its first two day edition after five years. The park did not receive planning permission in time, and rather than commit hundreds of thousands of pounds to infrastructure without insurance, the team moved the whole thing. Waterworks Extended now runs at The Cause in east London as a continuous 36 hour party across seven spaces, on the same dates, with existing tickets still valid.
Waterworks 2026 is not cancelled. After five years of our summer send-off, we couldn’t allow this news to stop our annual gathering.
After September, the weather does the sorting
BEONIX is the outlier that gets away with staying outside. Cyprus is warm well into autumn, and the festival returns to the former ETKO winery complex in Limassol from 25 to 27 September with Adam Beyer, CamelPhat, Pan-Pot, MRAK, Argy and a Röyksopp DJ set. Portugal keeps one last beach date before that: DHB moves to a new seafront site at Costa da Caparica on 18 and 19 September.
October is indoors without exception. Amsterdam Dance Event fills more than 300 venues from 21 to 25 October for its thirtieth anniversary, less a festival than a five night takeover of a city. Dream Nation closes the run at Villepinte on 30 and 31 October, a Halloween weekend across six stages with Angerfist, Pendulum and Rebelion. One correction for anyone working from older listings: Dream Nation has moved off its traditional September slot.
The TA view
Autumn used to read as the leftovers after the July peak. That framing is out of date. What the Waterworks relocation makes plain is that permits, insurance and park licensing now shape the European calendar at least as much as booking budgets, and the events that survive the shift are the ones willing to trade a field for a warehouse. A 36 hour club marathon is not a downgrade from a park stage. Plan for September outdoors, and from October buy for the room rather than the weather.
