About Lakota
Lakota is a nightclub at 6 Upper York Street, just off Stokes Croft in Bristol, about 14 minutes' walk from the city centre. Its building, a former bottle works, is the only remaining part of the historic Stokes Croft Brewery. The club was set up by George Leonards and Martin Woolford, who also ran the Moon Club on part of the site from 1986, and in 1990 it was bought by Bentleigh and Marti Burgess. Through the 1990s it booked house DJs such as Carl Cox, Sasha and John Digweed, and a 2008 plan to demolish the building was later dropped after public opposition.
Today Lakota describes itself as an independent, black-owned venue with more than three decades behind it. The nightclub has four rooms, among them the main room and Coroner's Court, while the upstairs Moon Club is a 200-capacity room with a 360-degree L-Acoustics system. Lakota Gardens is an outdoor courtyard with street food and live football. Nights cover drum and bass, dubstep, disco, hardcore, house, rap and techno.
