About U4

U4 is a nightclub in Vienna's Meidling district, in a cellar at Schönbrunner Straße 222-228 next to Meidling Hauptstraße station on the U4 line. It opened on 8 May 1980 in a former underground wine tavern and takes its name from the metro: the site was first planned as a U4 station, which was then built a few metres away. In the 1980s it was a meeting point for Vienna's music scene. Falco was a regular, Sade played in 1983, Prince gave an unannounced after-show concert in 1987 and Nirvana played in 1989.

Since 2006 U4 has been run by U4-Center Diskothek Betriebs GmbH. The club has a main room for up to 550 guests and a smaller club room, about 580 people in total. It opens Tuesday to Saturday, with the U4 Campus student night on Tuesdays, RESET with 90s and 2000s hits on Wednesdays, BOUNTI with dancehall, afrobeats and hip hop on Thursdays, and weekend parties ranging from 80s and 90s to rock, Latin and pop. A yearly Falco night remembers the singer.

U4 is 18+. Entry is first come, first served, and table bookers use a separate entrance. For safety reasons linked to the emergency exits, the club cannot admit wheelchair users or guests who need walking aids.
