About Flex
Flex is a club and concert venue on the Donaukanal in Vienna's first district, built into a disused U-Bahn tunnel below the Augartenbrücke. It sits a short walk from Schottenring station. It began on New Year's Eve 1989 in Arndtstraße in the 12th district, run by people from the scene around the squatted house in Aegidigasse, as a mix of underground club, punk venue and culture centre. The club then moved to the canal, and the current venue opened on 1 October 1995. The Flex Café beside the entrance followed in 2007.
The main hall runs an Alcons Q-Series line array with front loaded bass horns, and the café has its own Alcons system. Evenings often start with concerts at 19:00, from indie and punk bands to electronic live acts, followed by club nights from 23:00. Flex is a long running home of drum and bass, with series such as The Hive and Switch!, alongside tekno, psytrance and queer parties. It is run by the Kunst und Kulturverein U.S.W. and draws around 50,000 visitors a year.
Door policy
From the club's own rulesMost club nights are 16+. Some promoters run their own awareness team and door selection, and a presale ticket does not guarantee entry if you are too drunk or aggressive.
