About Rote Sonne
Rote Sonne is a techno club in the basement at Maximiliansplatz 5 in central Munich. It opened on 5 August 2005 in the rebuilt rooms of the former Fortuna club and is named after a 1969 film. Its owners include Peter Wacha and Dorothea Zenker, two founders of Munich's Ultraschall club, and it is run by Südmotor Veranstaltungs GmbH. The club holds 300 to 400 people and has a sprung dance floor of oak planks that carries the bass to the dancers. Weekends focus on electronic music, with hard techno on Fridays and a more open mix of techno, electro, house and drum and bass on Saturdays. The queer party garryklein runs on Wednesdays, concerts take place in the week under RS:In_Concert, and since May 2025 Community Nights with an unannounced line-up let guests pay what they can.
