About La Java

La Java is a club and concert hall at 105 rue du Faubourg du Temple in Belleville, Paris 10e. It sits in the basement of the Galerie du Palais du Commerce, an art deco arcade listed as a historic monument since 1994. It opened in 1923 as a dance hall, and Django Reinhardt, Jean Gabin and Fréhel played there, as did Maurice Chevalier and Édith Piaf early in their careers. After a period of Latin music it turned to electronic music. Guests walk down wrought iron stairs past period stained glass and floor mosaics to a single, mostly standing room that holds up to 450 people in club mode. From Wednesday to Saturday it runs concerts from 19:30 to 23:00, then club nights from midnight to 07:00 with electro, house and techno from Paris collectives and touring DJs.
