About Northern Bass
Northern Bass returns to Mangawhai on 30 and 31 December 2026 for its fifteenth anniversary, the New Zealand New Year festival that has made the Northland coast its home since 2011. Mangawhai sits around two hours north of Auckland, between the harbour and the surf beach, in country that fills with Aucklanders over the holidays.
Andy C with Tonn Piper lead the first line up announcement, alongside Culture Shock, JME, Lee Mvtthews and Songer. Andy C is the most decorated drum and bass DJ in the genre’s history and JME brings the grime side, which between them covers most of what a festival called Northern Bass should be programming.
The festival publishes a film for each edition going back to 2014 and runs sustainability and get involved programmes alongside the music. Tickets are on sale through the festival’s own site. Mangawhai is two hours from Auckland by road with no public transport, so most people drive or take organised buses. Late December in Northland is the peak of the New Zealand summer. For a New Zealand New Year bass music festival, fifteen years makes Northern Bass the institution.
