About AUM New Years Festival (South Head (Auckland), New Zealand)
AUM runs at South Head on the Kaipara peninsula north west of Auckland from 30 December 2026 to 2 January 2027, described by the organisers as Auckland’s largest New Year party. Three nights, four stages and more than 200 music, performing and visual artists make it one of the biggest New Zealand events of the summer.
The site is the reason. South Head sits on the narrow strip between the Kaipara Harbour and the Tasman Sea, an hour and a half from Auckland on unsealed roads at the end, which gives a festival of this size genuine isolation. AUM has run since the mid 2010s and marked its tenth birthday in 2024.
The programme spreads well beyond music into performance and visual art, which is where the 200 artist figure comes from. The festival publishes several official films for each edition from different filmmakers. Tickets are sold through Flicket. Late December and early January in Northland is the peak of the New Zealand summer. For a New Zealand New Year music festival, AUM is the largest on the North Island.
