About Kaffibarinn

Kaffibarinn is a bar and café in a small red house with a corrugated metal front at Bergstaðastræti 1 in downtown Reykjavík, about a five minute walk from Hallgrímskirkja. It has been open since 1993 and began as a cosy café before becoming one of the main late night bars in the city. It works as a café by day, and at night the tables are pushed aside for DJs, who play every night from 21:30 (Saturdays from 23:00) with a mix of electro, house, indie and classics on a tiny dance floor. The bar appears in the 2000 film 101 Reykjavík by Baltasar Kormákur. Entry is always free, and the Reykjavík Grapevine named it joint Best Bar to End the Night in its Best of Reykjavík 2026 awards.
