Tomorrowland has been voted the world’s No. 1 festival for a sixth consecutive year, DJ Mag confirmed on 2 July 2026 after a record number of fans took part in the Top 100 Festivals 2026 poll. The result landed just as the Belgian giant threw open the gates on its opening weekend in Boom, keeping the headline fresh. Yet read the list through a techno lens and the more interesting story sits a little further down.
The top of the chart reads like a roll call of large-scale production: EDC Las Vegas climbs to No. 2 after its 30th anniversary, UNTOLD holds at No. 3, Ultra takes No. 4 and Defqon.1 jumps five places to No. 5. These are festivals built around vast mainstages, cinematic staging and pop-facing bookings, and that is exactly what a global public vote tends to reward.
The best techno festivals of 2026, as the poll frames them, cluster just behind. Kappa FuturFestival in Turin is the highest-placed dedicated techno event at No. 8, a strong showing for a festival whose Parco Dora site trades fantasy set design for raw industrial concrete and daytime sound. Germany’s Time Warp follows at No. 14 and Amsterdam’s Dekmantel, the connoisseur’s pick, sits at No. 17. All three make the top 20; none breaks into the top five.
There is genuine breadth elsewhere in the ranking. Festivals from 35 countries feature, Houghton in the UK is the biggest climber at 43 places to No. 43, and Indonesia’s Scream Or Dance is the highest new entry at No. 71. A poll this large measures reach and mobilisation as much as musical weight, which is why a tightly curated techno weekend rarely outscores a stadium-sized brand.
Placement here is a popularity contest, not a purity test. Kappa FuturFestival at No. 8 tells you techno can command a mass audience without softening its sound, and that is the number worth celebrating.
