Borderland Music Festival (Kuching (Sarawak), Malaysia) 2027

Borderland Music Festival returns to Kuching on 20 March 2027, bringing together live music and the culture of Borneo in the Sarawak capital. The organisers frame the festival around that meeting point rather than importing a format wholesale from elsewhere in the region.

Sarawak is Malaysia’s largest state and culturally distinct from the peninsula, with its own indigenous traditions and a long history of festivals built around them. Borderland sits in that lineage while programming contemporary music, which is where its name comes from.

Tickets are sold through Ticketmelon under The Origin Kenyalang banner. Kuching International takes direct flights from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Johor Bahru, and the city itself is compact enough to walk, sitting on the Sarawak River with the rainforest national parks within an hour’s drive. March in Borneo is hot and humid at around 32 degrees with afternoon rain likely. For a Malaysian music festival rooted in its own place, Borderland is the Sarawak one.
