About Beneath the Baobabs Festival
Beneath the Baobabs runs at Kilifi on the Kenyan coast from 30 December 2026 to 1 January 2027, three days under the baobab trees that give the festival its name. The site is a former quarry on the Kilifi creek, with the baobabs rising out of it, and it has become one of the best known festival locations in East Africa.
The programming covers music, culture and community rather than only dance music, with Kenyan and East African artists alongside international bookings. The festival has run since the 2010s, developing out of the earlier Kilifi New Year events, and publishes a full aftermovie for each edition with films going back to 2019.
Tickets are sold through Quicket, with accommodation on and around the site sold alongside, from camping to built lodging. Kilifi sits on the coast around an hour north of Mombasa, which is served directly from Nairobi, Dubai and several European cities, with Malindi airport also nearby. Late December on the Kenyan coast is hot, humid and dry. For an East African New Year music festival, Beneath the Baobabs is the one everyone travels for.
