About Zentralwäscherei

Zentralwäscherei, or ZW, is a non-commercial cultural and community space in the former central laundry building at Neue Hard 12 in Zurich. Several collectives applied together for the temporary use of the building in 2019, and after the City of Zurich approved the project, Verein Zentralwäscherei moved in that April. The association has run the space since November 2021 through working groups, an operations team and a quarterly parliament open to members. The programme mixes concerts, talks, flea markets, workshops, a restaurant and club nights such as ZW-TILT, spread over rooms including the Beschallungsraum, the Halle and KW. Many events use a pay-what-you-can model with reduced and solidarity prices. ZW celebrates its fifth year with a festival from 17 to 22 November 2026.

Many events offer three self-assessed prices (regular, reduced and solidarity), and people who cannot afford a ticket can ask in advance for reduced or free entry. An awareness team is on site at larger events, and the venue is step-free with a wheelchair lift.
