About Sub Club
Sub Club is a basement club at 22 Jamaica Street in Glasgow city centre, a few minutes on foot from Glasgow Central station. It opened on 1 April 1987 in the former Lucifers nightclub and is one of the longest running underground dance clubs in the world. The 3,500 square foot space holds up to 410 people, with exposed brickwork and steel beams in the main bar, a low-ceilinged dancefloor and a dimly lit back bar. A fire next door closed the club from November 1999 until November 2002, a Body Kinetic dancefloor was added in 2006, and the sound system is by Martin Audio.
Saturday belongs to Subculture, launched in 1994 with residents Harri and Domenic and billed by the club as the longest running weekly house and techno night. Fridays and midweek nights rotate local promoters and guests, and Optimo ran its Sunday residency here from 1997. The club also runs the Sub Club SoundSystem and Southside Weekender events.
