About Silk City

Silk City sits at 5th and Spring Garden in Northern Liberties, Philadelphia, and combines a retro diner, a year-round enclosed garden and a lounge for live bands, shows and weekend DJ parties. The diner car was built in 1952 by the Paterson Dining Company in Paterson, New Jersey, a city nicknamed Silk City, and it opened on this corner in 1954. After the original management closed it in 2006, owner Mark Bee bought and renovated the site and reopened it in 2007, adding a heated 3,000 square foot garden. The lounge programme mixes indie and metal gigs, drag and themed shows with DJ nights such as the monthly Vibe Check party, which plays club music, global rhythms and cookout classics.
