Shambhala Music Festival takes place on the Salmo River Ranch, a 500-acre working farm near Salmo in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia. According to the official site, the festival began on Labour Day weekend in 1998, when around 500 people gathered on the ranch for a party showcasing local art and music, and it grew by word of mouth into a staple of the West Coast underground electronic scene. The 2027 edition is the 28th annual Shambhala and runs from 23 to 26 July 2027.
Tickets for 2027 go on sale on Tuesday 15 September 2026 at 12pm PDT through the official store, with an early bird price still to be announced. All tickets are general admission and include festival access from 8:00 AM on Friday 23 July until Monday 26 July, free tent camping and free parking. Guests must be 19 or over. Upgrades such as ShambhaLodging, early entry and paid car camping are sold separately. The lineup has not been announced.
The festival runs six uniquely themed stages presenting electronic and live music from around the world and from its own backyard, and it accepts no corporate sponsorship. The official site states that 23,500 guests, crew and artists, known as the Farmily, gather on the farm, and that Shambhala has become a leader in harm reduction and safety standards in the North American festival industry. For a techno festival audience it is one of Canada’s most distinctive settings, with forest stages and the river running through the site.
