About Stereo
Stereo is an after-hours club at 858 Rue Sainte-Catherine Est in Montreal, founded in 1998 by DJ and producer Angel Moraes. It sits in the Ville-Marie borough near Berri-UQAM and is owned by Tommy Piscardelli. The music is house and techno, with parties that start late and run into the morning.
The club works on two floors: the after-hours room is upstairs, while a smaller space on the lower floor, StereoBar, serves alcohol during licensed hours. The after-hours room itself does not serve alcohol. After a fire closed the venue in 2008, it was rebuilt and reopened in 2009 with a room built inside the room and sound-absorbing material between the two shells, a design aimed at sound quality. Stereo appeared in the DJ Mag Top 100 Clubs poll from 2008 to 2011, peaking at number 14 in 2010, and returned at number 92 in 2019, when DJ Mag gave its capacity as 700. The club's own YouTube channel holds recordings from nights with Danny Tenaglia, Adam Beyer, Maceo Plex and Nicole Moudaber.
