About Ocidente

Ocidente, also called Bar Ocidente or Oci, is a bar, restaurant, stage and cultural centre in Porto Alegre's Bom Fim district. It occupies the upper floor of an 1879 townhouse on the corner of Avenida Osvaldo Aranha and Rua João Telles and opened on 3 December 1980, founded by six partners led by Fiapo Barth. In the 1980s it turned into a discotheque, described by Portuguese Wikipedia as one of the first centres of club culture in Brazil, and gave a stage to alternative bands. After a closure from 1994 to 1996 it reopened with projects such as Ocidente Acústico and long-running theme parties including Balonê and Pulp Friction. Today it serves lunch from Tuesday to Saturday and hosts acoustic concerts, burlesque nights and dance parties at night.
