About Insomnia Festival
Insomnia Festival returns to Tromso from 14 to 17 October 2026, running four days of electronic and experimental music 350 kilometres inside the Arctic Circle. The festival has been staged in the northern Norwegian city since 2002 and is as much a platform for new work as a concert programme, with commissions, residencies and project strands running alongside the live bill.
Those strands carry their own names and identities. NERDS, TIMES, Cloud Exit, LYRA and Synapse Again sit alongside Insomnia Insights, the festival’s talks and research programme. The 2026 edition also runs workshops including Body as Instrument, on movement, sound and sensors, a soundsystem building session with Dub and Dal, and a microtonal micromusic workshop, which gives a fair indication of where the festival’s interests lie.
Tickets and volunteer applications are handled through the official site. Tromso is served by its own airport with direct flights from Oslo in under two hours, and mid October brings the start of the polar night period, with the northern lights visible on clear evenings. The city is compact enough to walk between venues. For experimental electronic music at high latitude, Insomnia is the Norwegian music festival that has held the ground longest.
