Beyond the Mountain Festival (Swellendam, South Africa) 2026

Beyond the Mountain runs at Swellendam from 30 December 2026 to 1 January 2027, three days in the Overberg region of the Western Cape with the Langeberg range as the backdrop. Swellendam is the third oldest town in South Africa, sitting on the N2 between Cape Town and the Garden Route.

The timing puts the festival across the turn of the year, which in South Africa means peak summer: long hot days, late sunsets and an audience already on holiday. The surrounding country is farmland and mountain fynbos, with the Bontebok National Park on the edge of the town.

Tickets and the full programme are published through the festival’s own site. Swellendam is around two hours east of Cape Town on the N2, with accommodation in the town and on the surrounding farms, and the Breede River and Tradouw Pass both within easy reach for anyone extending the trip. Late December in the Overberg is hot and dry with strong afternoon wind. For a Western Cape New Year music festival, the setting is the selling point.
