About A38

A38 is a concert and club venue on a converted ship moored at the Buda end of Petőfi Bridge in Budapest, on the lower quay of the Danube. The vessel was built in 1968 as Tripolie, a Ukrainian stone carrier, and takes its name from Artemovsk, the ship class of which it was the 38th unit. After a rebuild of about a year and a half, A38 opened on 30 April 2003, and it is run by Zászlóshajó Ltd. The concert hall sits in the former cargo hold inside the hull, next to the Bow Studio and the Motor Bar, with a restaurant on deck and terraces at the bow and on the roof.

The programme is mainly live music across rock, jazz, punk, world and electronic, with late-night parties in the concert hall from 23:30 and the Sunset Raves electronic series on the open-air terraces from April to September. Lonely Planet readers voted A38 the best bar in the world in an online poll, and it is a member of the Trans Europe Halles network.
