About The Alternative
The Alternative returns to Koh Ta Kiev from 13 to 21 February 2027, nine days on a Cambodian island off the coast near Sihanoukville. Koh Ta Kiev has almost no development: a handful of rustic guesthouses, no roads and no mains electricity, which is the entire reason the festival is held there.
Nine days is an unusual length even by the standards of remote island festivals, and it changes the format: the event functions as a stay rather than a weekend, with the audience arriving by boat and living on the island for the duration. The organisers publish an official aftermovie for each edition.
Details and tickets are published through the festival’s own channels. Koh Ta Kiev is reached by boat from Otres or Ream near Sihanoukville, which has an airport with flights from Phnom Penh and several regional cities, with Phnom Penh four hours away by road. Mid February in Cambodia is the dry season, hot and with no rain. Bringing everything you need matters on an island with no shops. For a Southeast Asian island music festival, The Alternative is the most remote.
