1) Hi Groefer, welcome to Techno Airlines. First of all, how are you, how is it going?
Hello there, thank you so much for having me. I’m doing very well, considering all what’s happening, I’m trying to keep a positive attitude!
2) Congratulations on your new EP from Laika Sounds. What inspired the ep, what influenced it, where and when and who was it written for?
Thank you very much, that EP has been in the works for months and months, I kept tuning it and playing the different versions till I was finally satisfied with it. The whole EP’s influence really differs from a track to another but unites under my mantra “Deep with a hint of tribal”
“Sand & Soda” was really inspired by the typical summer energy, time on the beach, with loved ones and that “I wanna stay in this moment forever” feeling.
“No Regrets’” main idea was actually written in one night after attending an event and being inspired by the energy and artists’ sets.
And funny enough “Ambushed” was the last track I worked on. End of the summer, some personal hard times and I just translated those feelings in that record.
3)How was the pandemic for you and what effect did it have on your music taste and style?
The pandemic was tough, obviously harder on some than others.
I personally, tried to make the best of it, specially musically. I had lots of down time so I reconnected with my beginnings, picked up the guitar again, did lots of research and that’s really what caused my transition from the classic House sound to the deeper side of the sound spectrum. Fell in love with the emotional arrangement and the story, long records can tell, and again that’s where my personal mantra came to life: Deep, with a hint of tribal. A phrase that describes my sound perfectly!
4) And when did you start making it, what sounds, DJs, labels and parties inspired you?
It’s been a while; I have been professionally producing and playing music for about 11 years now…
I grew up in a musical family, in an environment where I was free to create and explore different cultures. My father is a great guitar player, both of my brothers are music producers, so I grew up with music sheets, chords and music culture in general.
After playing a couple of instruments I was introduced to electronic music through Ilyas, my older brother, who’s an amazing producer and sound designer, with whom I often work on putting the final touches on my tracks.
To be honest, I never really looked up to any producer or DJ in particular. I loved different music genres and followed many labels such as: Hed Kandi, Toolroom, Defected, Yellow Productions… I guess growing up with music making around, I knew very early on that I needed to find my own sound!
5) What else have you got coming up/are you working on?
I have a couple of releases coming soon, and many projects ongoing, some great collaborations.
My next release is on Peter Makto’s new imprint, Zenebona Records, really looking forward to this one, already have some great feedback and support from some talented artists!
I also have a bunch of gigs that I will announce soon, where I’ll be sharing the stage with some of my favorite international DJs, so yeah… lots going on, I’ll make sure to keep you guys posted!
